Los Angeles Clippers Notes, Quotes 2009-03-17
--Either it is a testimony to the instincts of Marcus Camby and rookie DeAndre Jordan or the fact that the Clippers allow so much dribble penetration but the Clippers rank second in the league in blocked shots per game, trailing only the Golden State Warriors.

--F Zach Randolph obviously leaves a huge void in the Clippers' offense when he is not in the lineup. Randolph has missed 25 games since joining the Clippers in late November and the Clippers are 2-23 without him.

--It shapes up to be a hotly contested battle down the stretch for the NBA's Rookie of the Year award among four candidates -- Chicago's Derrick Rose, the first overall pick in last year's draft, Memphis guard O.J. Mayo, who was chosen third, Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City, the fourth overall pick and guard Eric Gordon, whom the Clippers selected with the seventh pick.

Mayo leads all rookies in scoring at 18.9 points per game. Rose is second at 16.4, Westbrook is third at 15.9 and Gordon is right behind at 15.5.

But since Jan. 1, Gordon has been the top scorer at 20.8 points, followed by Westbrook (18.1), Mayo (16.9) and Rose (16.7).

Back in late January, Chicago Bulls coach said the award was a slam dunk for his first-year player, Rose. That is very unlikely.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "That's definitely a goal. But now it has to be a goal for next year." -- Clippers second-year player Al Thornton, when asked if reaching the playoffs is one of his goals.
