Los Angeles Clippers Roster Report 2008-09-22

Los Angeles Clippers Roster Report 2008-09-22
DRAFT PICKS:

Eric Gordon, G, 6-4, Indiana -- Impressed the Clippers basketball staff in a workout with his prolific shooting ability. Gordon has mid-range and 3-point shooting skills, and his brawny build also enables him to drive to the basket. Barring a summer trade involving incumbent starting guard Cuttino Mobley, Gordon is slated to provide depth off the bench as a scorer and fill-in point guard.

DeAndre Jordan, C, 7-0, Texas A&M -- Definitely a project, but his size (he weighs 260 pounds) should at least give starting center Chris Kaman a wide body to go against at practice. Jordan averaged only 7.9 points and six rebounds per game in his one college season.

Mike Taylor, G, 6-2, Idaho Stampede (D-League) -- The Clippers traded next year's second-round pick to the Portland Trail Blazers for Taylor, who has bounced around since graduating from Marshall High School in Milwaukee four years ago. Taylor played two years at Chipola (Fla.) Junior College and one season at Iowa State. He was kicked off the team at Iowa State and spent last season playing in the D-League for the Stampede. Taylor will get a shot to make the team as a backup point guard.

PLAYER NOTES:

--G-F Quinton Ross surprisingly has not been signed by any NBA team. He is an unrestricted free agent who was a valued player as a defender for the Clippers the last four seasons. It is possible that Ross will end up playing in Europe if he is not signed by the time NBA teams open their training camps.

--F-C Marcus Camby will have the incentive this season of having been unceremoniously discarded by his former team, the Denver Nuggets. Denver shipped him to the Clippers in a trade for a future second-round draft pick. The Clippers hope that there is enough spunk in the 34-year-old Camby, who was the NBA's defensive player of the year in 2007.

--Uniform changes are in order for two former Clippers, Jason Hart and Brian Skinner, who have rejoined the team this summer. Hart, who wore No. 1 during his stint with the Clippers down the stretch of the 2006-07 season, will wear No. 6, in deference to Baron Davis, who will wear the No. 1 jersey that Hart wore for the Clippers. Skinner, who began his career with the Clippers, when he was a first-round draft pick in 1998, will wear No. 8. He wore No. 32 during his first three seasons in the NBA, with the Clippers.
