Los Angeles Clippers Roster Report 2008-12-30
Fresh off being signed to a contract for the remainder of the season, guard Fred Jones played 15 minutes in his Clippers' debut against Dallas. Jones did not have the benefit of a practice and not even a morning shoot-around, since the Clippers-Dallas game was a Sunday matinee affair. Jones was shown a few offensive sets by the coaching staff during his one-day tryout. "Once you get down to it, it's just basketball," Jones said.

ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Baron Davis, Shooting guard Eric Gordon, Small forward Al Thornton, Power forward Brian Skinner, Center Marcus Camby. Bench -- Guard Jason Hart, Guard-Forward Mardy Collins, Center DeAndre Jordan, Forward-Center Paul Davis, Guard Fred Jones.

PLAYER NOTES:

--G-F Mardy Collins has been pegged by Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy as a point forward. That term originally was coined back in the 1980s as reference to Milwaukee Bucks swingman Paul Pressey, an 11-year NBA veteran, who is currently an assistant coach with the New Orleans Hornets. The 6-9 Pressey usually guarded forwards but often initiated the half-court offense. Collins said the term "point forward", when applied to him, means that when he gets a defensive rebound, he can bring the ball up the floor himself and set up the play, alleviating that duty on that particular time down the court from the point guard.

--C Marcus Camby returned to the starting lineup after missing a game because of the death of his father. Camby went into the game against Dallas with a streak of 15 consecutive games of grabbing 10 or more rebounds. During that streak, Camby averaged 14 rebounds per game. Camby extended that streak to 16 straight games, with 12 rebounds in the loss to the Mavericks.

--G Eric Gordon was not much of a factor through the first 13 games, when he was a backup to veteran Cuttino Mobley. But Gordon has prospered since being elevated to the starting lineup after Mobley was traded to New York. In the 15 games since that trade, the rookie guard has reached double-figures in points 10 times, including three games of 22 or more points. During that span, he averaged 13.6 points.

MEDICAL WATCH:

--F Zach Randolph (strained left knee) will be out indefinitely. Randolph was injured in the Clippers' loss to the Toronto Raptors.

--G Ricky Davis (tendinitis in left knee) is beginning to shoot and run on a limited basis. But Davis said it would be at least another two weeks before he could play. Davis has missed the past 16 games, which is six more than he missed in the previous seven combined season.

--G Mike Taylor (fracture right thumb) in all likelihood won't be back in action until after the All-Star break in mid-February.

--C Chris Kaman (plantar fasciitis left foot) said he has no idea when he would be able to return. Kaman now has missed the past 14 games.
