OAKLAND Corey Maggette said he doesn't know how long he'll be out of the Warriors lineup after the MRI he had Wednesday on his right hamstring revealed a small tear.
The veteran forward has been bothered by his hamstrings off and on this season. He missed four games in early November with a strained left hamstring and has missed Golden State's past three games, including Friday's contest against the Houston Rockets, with what was described as a strained right hamstring. "There was a like a little strain tear in there, which was what I probably expected, being that this is like the fourth time it's been happening," Maggette said before Friday's game. "I'm just trying to make sure I take precautions. Now I think they want me not to just rest and come back and be out again.
"I was thinking that I was going to probably play (Friday). But since they did a different test (Thursday), they said my hamstring wasn't strong enough to try and go. But I compliment everybody. They're doing a good job of trying to help me out."
Maggette will not travel with the team when it plays at Denver tonight. There's no timetable for his return, as he'll continue to rest until any results from future tests turn up more positive. Right now, he just wants be supportive of his teammates.
"I'm just going to try and be as patient as possible, because I'm a very impatient person," Maggette said. "I just got to humble myself."
Maggette on Mobley
Maggette knows that his injury will heal with time. But that can't be said for his former Los Angeles Clippers teammate Cuttino Mobley, who was forced to retire after 11 NBA seasons because of a condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle starts to thicken.
Mobley knew he had an irregular heartbeat, but when he was traded to New York on Nov. 21, an MRI revealed the more serious condition.
"Cuttino's a good guy, man. I feel bad for the situation," said Maggette, who played with Mobley for the past three seasons with the Clippers. "Hopefully, it puts everybody on their feet. "... It seems like it was missed for so long, and in New York, doctors did a great job of finding the problem."
Off glass
Guard C.J. Watson is going to miss next Wednesday's game at Indiana as he flies home to Las Vegas for the funeral of his uncle, Larry Sneed, who recently died of a heart attack. Warriors coach Don Nelson said the team will bring up guard DeMarcus Nelson from Bakersfield of the Development League for the one game. "... Don Nelson went to Bakersfield to see DeMarcus Nelson and forward Richard Hendrix on Thursday and said he was happy with the progress they are making. "... Along with forward Brandan Wright, center Ronny Turiaf has also contracted the flu. Wright missed the game and Turiaf was listed as questionable for Friday's game.
