Pistons-Clippers Preview
The Detroit Pistons can consider themselves lucky that a favorable stretch in their schedule happened to coincide with injuries to several key players.

The Pistons may find themselves short-handed for a third straight game Sunday when they try to beat the slumping Los Angeles Clippers for the 12th consecutive time.

Detroit (20-11) is looking to win its seventh straight overall after posting a 98-82 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday without Richard Hamilton (groin), Rasheed Wallace (foot) and Antonio McDyess (ribs). It was the second straight game McDyess and Hamilton missed while Wallace suffered his injury Wednesday against New Jersey.

Despite missing two starters and a key reserve, the Pistons won Friday behind a solid effort by Rodney Stuckey, who scored 38 points - 13 in the fourth quarter. Tayshaun Prince and Allen Iverson each added 23.

"This was a unique situation," coach Michael Curry said. "When we did bring guys off the bench, it was for defensive purposes. We knew that Stuck, A.I. and Tay were going to have to carry us and look what they did."

Stuckey was 15-of-29 from the field and fell two points shy of matching his career high set on Dec. 23 against Chicago.

"I knew going in that I was going to have to play a lot of minutes and score a lot of points," Stuckey said. "We had an advantage at the point guard spot tonight and I was going to try to take advantage of it."

It's helped that the Pistons are playing back-to-back games against teams with two of the worst records in the Western Conference. Detroit has won 11 in a row over the Clippers (8-24) by an average of 14.0 points since a 74-72 loss at Staples Center on Nov. 3, 2002.

Los Angeles comes in having dropped a season high-tying six straight, falling 106-98 at Phoenix on Friday.

Marcus Camby had 19 points and 23 rebounds and rookie Eric Gordon scored 21 points, but the Clippers allowed the Suns to shoot 55.4 percent from the field and go on several lengthy runs.

Camby is averaging 16.5 points and 19.0 rebounds in the last four games. He had a season-high 11 offensive rebounds Friday.

"He just gives us tremendous effort all the time both defensively and offensively he chips in," coach Mike Dunleavy said. "He gets his points and he does a lot of things that don't always show up in our stat sheet."

The Clippers were also short-handed, dressing 10 players Friday. Los Angeles began the game without forward Zach Randolph (sore left knee), guards Baron Davis (bruised tailbone) and Mike Taylor (fractured right thumb), center Chris Kaman (strained left arch) and swingman Ricky Davis (sore left knee). They then lost guard Jason Hart in the first period with right elbow tendinitis.

"I was proud of our guys with their effort and the way we stayed in the game, Dunleavy said. "Our guys really competed well and did a lot of good things."

The Clippers are 0-9 against the Eastern Conference this season.
